Common Name
Type Locality	Upper Mazaruni River drainage, Kukui River, near town of Philipai, 5°21'37"N, 60°22'18"W, Guyana.
Etymology	Neblin- is based on the Neblina camp that is the location where the type specimen was caught. -ichtys: fish. Literally "fish from Neblina". The specific epithet is from the Latin words echinus meaning sea-urchin or prickly and nasus meaning nose, in reference to the numerous odontodes that adorn males of this species.
