Pronunciation	no two russ
Etymology	From the Greek notos, meaning back and oura, meaning tail. In reference to the confluent adipose and caudal fins. This specific epithet refers to the contrasting light (albus=white) regions of the caudal fin with the dark (ater=black) saddles.

Size	120mm or 4.7" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification	Yellow-brown to light brown above,faint to prominent dark mottling or blotching. 4 dusky saddles; pale yellow to cream-white below. Two forms exist: a mottled, stout-bodied form in St. Francis River drainage and a boldly patterned, more slender form in upper White River drainage.
Sexing	Breeding male with swollen lips,enlarged cephalic epaxial muscles, and large bulbous genital papilla. Female with papilla with deep median groove ending in a small bump

Distribution	North America: Ozark Uplands of Missouri and Arkansas, USA in upper White (including Red River) and St. Francis River drainages. Breeding	Spawning occurs in the months of may-august. It is difficult in the aquarium however it has been done when wild caught specimens are added to aquariums with warmer temperatures than the river or drainage system they are captured from.
