Type Locality	Fallen Timber Creek, 8 miles southeast of Glasgow, at state highway 90, Barren County, Kentucky, U.S.A.
Pronunciation	no two russ
Etymology	From the Greek notos, meaning back and oura, meaning tail. In reference to the confluent adipose and caudal fins. This specific epithet refers to its handsome or elegant colour pattern.

Habitat Information
Distribution	North America: restricted to the Green River drainage in Kentucky and Tennessee, USA. Individuals from the Duck River originally allocated to N. elegans are N. fasciatus, the latter restricted to the Duck River system and two minor tributaries of the lower arm of the Tennessee River, Tennessee.
