Identification | The fishes of the genus have elongate cylindrical bodies, short deep heads and short rounded fins. Small eyes far forward, mouth broadwith fleshy lips.Long and slender barbels and caudal fin can be truncate or rounded. Upper parts of body uniformly dark brown, with lighter areas on the belly. |
Sexing | Mature males have a bigger more swollen looking head than females. |

Distribution | Africa: headwater tributaries of Senegal River, near Ditinn and Mamou, Guinea. Also known from the upper course of the Bafing River (Senegal basin) and the basins of the Konkouré, Corubal, Little Scarcies and the Fouta Djalon region in Guinea. |
