Scientific Name Parotocinclus planicauda  Garavello & Britski, 2003
Common Name
Type Locality Suaçui Pequeno River, Barra do Rochedo, at Antonio Pereira de Oliveira farm, 20 kilometers from Coroaci, Minas Gerais State, Brazil.

Etymology Parotocinclus: Greek, para in the side of + greek, ous, otis = ear + Greek, kygklos, ou = a fish. planicauda from the Latin planus (= plain, flat) and cauda (= tail) refers to the somewhat quadrangular cross section of caudal peduncle with conspicuous flat lateral surfaces.

Identification The genus Parotocinclus can readily be distinguished from Otocinclus by the presence of an adipose fin in the former.
