Type Locality Hap Lap Chaung just south of Yuzana Myaing village, 8 kilometers left from Myitkyina-Myitzon road kilometer 11, Ayeyarwaddy River drainage, Kachin State, Myanmar.
Synonym(s) Puntius erythromycter, Puntius erythromycter
Etymology Pethia is the generic vernacular name for small cyprinids in Sinhala.
