Type Locality Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Size 950mm or 37.4" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Variable colour, usually markedly variegated, speckled or spotted in dark brown and cream or white.The spots can be obscured by the mottling. Caudal fin spotted, other fins with brown bars on rays and occasional or no spots or brown pigment.

Distribution South America: Paraná-Paraguay (including Cuiabá river in Brazil), Uruguay basins and Argentina. Formerly classified as data deficient in the 2000 IUCN red list of threatened species.
