Identification Continuous post-labial groove, gill openings not extending onto venter, heterodont dentition (different types of teeth) in both jaws. The outer teeth are shovel-shaped and sparsely arranged in one or two rows whilst the inner teeth are conical and numerous. The tooth patches are separated in the upper jaw. 16–18 branched pectoral rays.
