Scientific Name Rhyacoglanis rapppydanielae  Shibatta, Rocha & Oliveira, 2021
Common Name
Type Locality Small rapids downstream Jatobal, Rio Tocantins, Tucuruí, Pará, Brazil, about 04°28'26.5"S, 49°27'18.24"W.
Etymology Rhyacoglanis, from the Greek rhyax = torrent + glanis = catfish; indicating a catfish inhabiting running waters in reference to the habitat of the genus. Gender masculine. The specific name rapppydanielae, homage to Brazilian ichthyologist Lucia H. Rapp Py-Daniel for her outstanding contribution to Neotropical fishes’ systematics. She is the founder and current curator of the fish collection at Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA), whose scientific importance is recognized by the national and international communities.

Identification Rhyacoglanis is distinguished from other Pseudopimelodidae by three synapomorphies: presence of a light blotch on the cheek; a connection between the middle of the dark caudal-fin stripe and the dark caudal-peduncle pigmentation; and 30-35 total vertebrae. A key to the species is located HERE.
General Remarks Rhyacoglanis rapppydanielae is the smallest of all currently described species in this genus.
