Etymology | The genus name comes from Sunda, in reference to the Sunda Shelf (where this fish is found) and Olyra, the genus to which it is most similar. The specific epithet comes from the Latin adjective latebrosus, meaning “hidden, retired or secret”, in reference to the cryptic nature and apparent rarity of this species. |
