Species Information
Size	1000mm or 39.4" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification	Tachysurus can be identified by an extrascapular without a laterosensory canal, and a pterotic with a broad lateral laminar expansion. It is among the most speciose catfish groups in East Asia and its members inhabit habitats ranging from fast-flowing hillstreams to large rivers.
Sexing	Males have an elongate genital papilla in front of the anal fin.
General Remarks	A popular food fish, raised in outdoor ponds. Korean field guides list the maximum size of this fish as 500mm. This could be an indication of a subspecies but is more likely due to heavy fishing.

Distribution	Asia: Ussuri and Sungari rivers, Amur River basin, and Khanka Lake, Russia. Northern China, North Korea. Rivers flowing into the China Sea on the west coast of South Korea. Especially common in the Han and Geum Rivers. Other Parameters	A very hardy species that can be overwintered outdoors in ponds in temperate zones. It is also tolerant of slightly brackish waters.
Husbandry Information
Feeding	Feeds on aquactic invertebrates, molluscs and fish. Will also eat frozen and prepared foods in the aquarium. User data.
Furniture	Found in slow moving rivers with sand or mud bottoms. In the aquarium provide plant, log and/or leaf litter for cover.
Compatibility	Peaceful when kept in groups.
Suggested Tankmates	Young specimens can be kept with any fish that is too large to swallow. Larger specimens should be kept with large, slow-moving tankmates such as goldfish or koi.
Breeding	Spawning occurs in May and June. Eggs and young are guarded by the male. The fry stay with the male until they reach about 3cm in length. After one year, the fry are already 8-10cm and 14-16cm after two years. The fish are sexually mature at 3 years/20cm.
