Type Locality Bonito, Saracura Cave, 21°09'14.6''S, 56°43'22.7''W, rio Paraguai basin, Serra da Bodoquena karst area, southwestern State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, elevation 792 meters.

Etymology Trichomycterus: From the Greek trichos, meaning hair and mykter, meaning nose; in reference to the barbels. The specific name is an allusion to the Spanish artist Salvador Dalí, in reference to his famously long moustache (or whisker).
