Type Locality Ribeirão da Tapera, Mont-Serrat, Itatiaia, about 22°27'S, 44°50'W, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, elevation about 800 meters.
Synonym(s) Trichomycterus brasiliensis itatiayae
Pronunciation trick oh mick terr uss.
Etymology Trichomycterus: From the Greek trichos, meaning hair and mykter, meaning nose; in reference to the barbels.
