Common Name
Type Locality Riacho Andrequicé, tributary of rio Paraúna, itself a tributary of rio das Velhas (rio São Francisco basin), about 18°30'S, 43°30'W, Município de Trinta Réis, Minas Gerais State, Brazil.

Etymology Trichomycterus: From the Greek trichos, meaning hair and mykter, meaning nose; in reference to the barbels.
