Etymology	Named after the genus <em>Amblyceps</em>, which refers to its blunt head

Identification	Xiurenbagrus differs from confamilials by having two patches of vomerine teeth, lack of deep grooves along shafts of dorsal- and pectoral-fin spines, relatively acute snout and short barbels.
