Type Locality Dasha [Dja] River and Congo River, Moloundou District [East Region], southeastern Cameroon.

Etymology Chrysichthys: From the Greek chrysos, meaning golden and ichthys, meaning fish; in reference to the golden-yellow color (of the type species, C. auratus).
