General Remarks Sorubim trigonocephalus was described in 1920 by Alípio de Miranda Ribeiro, based on a single specimen collected in a locality identified as “Porto Velho”. However, in their 2016 paper, O'Hara & Neuhaus correct a nearly century old confusion and determine the type locality of this species in the Arinos River in the Tapajós basin and extend it's range to include the Xingu.
