Etymology From the Latin cyprinus meaning carp, from Greek kyprinos.
Features Cyprinids have scales, which are often quite large and well defined but absent from the head. Fleshy, short barbles are present around the mouth. They have no adipose fin and no teeth on their jaws.
Common Names Barbs, Minnows and Rasboras.
Size Smallest 46mm, largest 900mm, average 174mm, most commonly 150mm. All SL.
